The Hayward Gay Prom

Our goals with these portraits of LGBTQ youth at the Hayward Gay Prom, who we photographed in 2014 and 2015, was to capture their joy, their confidence, their love for each other, how they connected and celebrated their relationships, and the wonderful sense of community that we saw. It's one of the oldest continually running gay proms in America, that has been happening since 1995 with the purpose of giving LGBTQ youth a place to go where they can build their self esteem, feel safe and accepted, at Chabot College, in Hayward, CA.
